What is this Madness?

F. "Plant" Stanley is a legend. Stanley was a teacher, an explorer, an artist, historian, ethicist, biologist, ecologist, botanist, aquatic horticulturalist, competitive speed gardener, entomologist, architect, geologist, cartographer, myrmecologist, mammologist, herpetologist, ornithologist, private investigator, and had a passing knowledge of knitting. She was a revolutionary ecosocialist who fought for women's liberation, animal liberation, and a bunch of other liberations, all while laboring to educate her fellow sisters and brothers about the evils of capitalism. She also dabbled in Zhaobao Tajichuan, played the 7-string Brazilian guitar in a choro ensemble, and worked as a nude model for a company manufacturing eyepatches. Also, she kept aquariums and she was passionate about aquascaping, aquatic conservation, and ichthyology.

Perhaps Stanley's greatest contribution to the world came through her Intellectual "Salons," where Stanley and friends would gather to discuss politics, philosophy, art, music, and science. This was the origin of the Plant Stanley Society, an association of revolutionary thinkers passionate about the arts and the sciences and seeking the camaraderie of their fellows. Over the years, the "Pondificators," or "Pondies," as they were called, worked together to support important artistic and scientific projects around the world. This tradition continues today. And this is the gateway to this venerable society of alternative intellectuals and artistically-minded ne'er do wells.

Today, the Plant Stanley Society stays true to this mission, overseen by this generation's Stanley, and still supporting innovative art, science, and intellectual endeavors. Interested in exploring the unknown? Like knitting? How about aquariums? Join us, and carry on a great tradition! As Stanley herself is often quoted as having said, though historians doubt the veracity, "What's up, y'all? Check out this aquarium that ya' girl just scaped."
